Frequently Asked Questions
-
An oil check is much more accurate and effective than a dry check. Applying oil slows lice movement, improves visibility, and allows our technicians to identify both live lice and eggs more reliably.
Dry checks often miss early infestations or active lice that move quickly through the hair. -
Yes. We use child-safe, non-toxic products that are gentle on the scalp and hair. Oil checks are comfortable, effective, and widely considered the gold standard for professional lice detection and removal.

Our 15-Day Peace of Mind Guarantee
At NitFreeCo, we understand that dealing with lice can feel overwhelming, stressful, and emotionally exhausting for families. That's why our commitment to you doesn't end when we walk out the door. We genuinely care about the families we serve, and we believe that peace of mind is just as important as the treatment itself.
If concerns arise during your 15-day aftercare period and you've followed the recommended treatment plan, we encourage you to reach out. We are always happy to answer questions, provide guidance, and help you determine whether what you're seeing is an active concern, an old egg casing, dandruff, or simply part of the normal process. We know how easy it is to become anxious after an infestation, and we never want our families to feel like they're facing it alone.
In the rare event that a follow-up visit is needed, we will return to your home at no additional cost to assess the situation and provide reassurance. Our goal is not to find reasons to avoid helping you—our goal is to do what's right for your family. We stand behind our work, our process, and the relationships we build with our clients. We would much rather take the time to ensure you feel confident and supported than leave you wondering if the problem has truly been resolved.
When you invite NitFreeCo into your home, you're not just hiring a service—you're partnering with a company that genuinely cares about your family's well-being. We treat every family the way we would want our own family treated: with honesty, compassion, education, and support every step of the way.
Because at the end of the day, our success isn't measured by the treatment itself—it's measured by the peace of mind we leave behind. 💗
Guarantee applies when aftercare instructions are followed and does not apply to new exposures that occur after treatment.

Oil-based treatment: Slows and immobilizes lice
Makes eggs easier to see and remove
Reduces discomfort and pulling. Allows for a more thorough, efficient treatment. Dry combing alone is more likely to miss live lice or eggs, increasing the risk of reinfestation. -
Extra virgin olive oil is more effective for smothering lice because it is less processed and retains its natural molecular structure. On a microscopic level, lice breathe through tiny openings called spiracles. Extra virgin olive oil has a thicker, more stable lipid composition, allowing it to fully coat the hair and scalp and seep into these openings, blocking oxygen and effectively smothering lice.
Regular or refined olive oils are processed with heat and filtration, which alters their molecular integrity and makes them thinner. This lighter structure does not seal the spiracles as effectively, reducing its ability to suffocate lice.
Extra virgin olive oil also contains naturally occurring fatty acids and antioxidants that help protect the scalp and hair during extended contact, making it ideal for overnight oiling treatments. This ensures effective lice control while keeping hair nourished and minimizing irritation.
For these reasons, we exclusively recommend extra virgin olive oil for aftercare and oiling nights, it provides superior lice smothering while being gentle and safe for the scalp

Most initial treatments take 2–3 hours, depending on hair length, thickness, and the severity of infestation. We’ll always explain what to expect before starting and keep you informed throughout the visit.

Lice removal is typically performed in the kitchen because it offers a clean, well-lit, and controlled environment with non-porous surfaces that can be easily disinfected. Kitchens provide adequate space, stable seating, access to running water if needed, and improved visibility, all of which support effective inspection, manual removal, and proper sanitation.
Bathrooms are generally not recommended because they often lack sufficient lighting and workspace, may have higher humidity, and frequently contain porous items such as towels and bath mats that increase the risk of cross-contamination. Limited space can also make it difficult to maintain proper positioning and sanitation during the service.
Outdoor settings are not recommended because they are uncontrolled environments. Wind, variable lighting, weather conditions, insects, and environmental debris can interfere with accurate inspection and removal, reduce sanitation control, and compromise service quality and safety.
Using the kitchen helps ensure the service is completed efficiently, hygienically, and with the highest level of care.
For these reasons, performing lice removal in a bathroom or outdoor setting voids the 15-day guarantee. The guarantee is based on services being completed in a controlled environment that allows for thorough inspection, proper sanitation, and consistent quality standards. When services are performed in locations that limit visibility, sanitation, or environmental control, NitFreeCO cannot reliably verify treatment conditions or outcomes, and therefore the guarantee cannot be upheld.

At NitFreeCo, we take great pride in providing thorough, professional lice removal services and educating families on how to successfully eliminate head lice from their household. However, it is important for parents to understand that even after a successful treatment, children can be re-exposed to lice at any time through contact with another individual who is actively infested.
Head lice spread primarily through direct head-to-head contact. Schools, daycare centers, camps, sports teams, sleepovers, and other group settings create opportunities for lice to move from one child to another. Unfortunately, not every infestation is identified right away, and not every family chooses or is able to complete treatment promptly. As a result, a child who has been successfully treated may come into contact with another child who is still carrying live lice and become re-exposed.
Re-exposure does not necessarily indicate that a treatment failed. In many cases, it means that a child encountered a new source of lice after treatment was completed. This is especially common during active outbreaks within classrooms, schools, daycare programs, summer camps, sports activities, and large family gatherings. Because lice can remain undetected for days or even weeks, a single untreated case can continue to affect multiple children over time.
While NitFreeCo is committed to removing lice and educating families on proper aftercare, we cannot control or guarantee the treatment status of other children, households, schools, or community members. Our technicians cannot monitor whether every child your child interacts with has been properly screened, treated, or cleared of lice. For this reason, ongoing vigilance and routine head checks remain important, particularly when there are known cases within your child's school or social circle.
Our goal is to partner with families by providing effective treatment, comprehensive education, and continued support. We encourage parents to communicate with schools, caregivers, and close contacts whenever lice are discovered so that everyone can work together to reduce the risk of ongoing transmission. Early detection, prompt treatment, and community awareness are the most effective tools for preventing repeated exposure.
Please remember that a new exposure is not a reflection of a parent's efforts or the quality of treatment received. Head lice are a common childhood issue that can affect any family. NitFreeCo stands behind our services and is always available to answer questions, provide guidance, and help families navigate concerns about possible re-exposure.
Important Service Note
To ensure the highest quality and safest treatment for our clients, all services must be performed indoors. Outdoor environments can interfere with the effectiveness of lice removal, make it difficult for our technicians to work safely, and compromise the results of the service. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in providing a suitable indoor space so we can deliver the best possible care.
